About Camino HR

Who are Camino HR?

Jane Rawlins, our lead consultant, established Camino HR in 2009, having worked in HR and on employment tribunals for 25 years prior to that.

The word Camino means ‘path’ or ‘way’ in Spanish, and was inspired by the Camino de Santiago, the last part of which Jane walked with her then young family.

It embodies the ethos of the company, which is to provide businesses with a path to the best possible HR practices, and to support and guide them on that journey.

We are now a small team of four, plus several associates who provide specialist skills. Since Camino HR was founded, we have worked with businesses in every sector and of all shapes and sizes. From organisations just starting, to multinational companies.

We pride ourselves on delivering professional, practical and personalised support to each of our clients.

Our testimonials show how highly our clients think of us.

We are based in Newark, at the easy to access Northgate Business Centre.

Our client base is predominantly within Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire so that we can easily meet face to face with our clients, but we increasingly work with clients based further afield who are happy to work with us remotely, with the occasional visit if necessary.

Jane Rawlins

Founder and HR Consultant

Jane has worked as an HR consultant since 1991; she is a Chartered Member of the CIPD, a qualified Mediator and a long serving Lay Member on Employment Tribunals.

Having successfully grown Camino HR over 15 years, she now confidently leaves much of the day to day client work to the rest of the team whilst she concentrates on providing support and training for them to make sure that they can provide the best possible service.

Jane provides the extra pair of hands whenever the workload demands it and the experience for the team to bounce ideas around with in tricky or complex HR matters. She also provides the out of hours support to clients, so that there is always someone available in an emergency.

Outside of running Camino HR, Jane enjoys life in the countryside, keeping chickens, pigs, and bees. She and her husband also like to explore the UK and further afield in their campervan. Jane loves being surrounded by family and always looks forward to spending time with her three adult children and two grandchildren.

Debbie Westwood

HR Consultant and Team Manager

Debbie is a Chartered Member of the CIPD and joined us in 2021 from her position as HR Manager for a Lincoln based manufacturing company. Prior to that she worked in HR within retail, contact centres and distribution, so she brought a wealth of practical experience and knowledge.

As well as having her own set of clients, Debbie leads and mentors the team, organises the workload and manages our weekly team meetings to ensure that we share information and keep up to date with what’s going on with all our clients.

Originally from Leeds, Debbie has lived in the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire area for the last 30 years and now lives near Newark. However she still has strong family ties with Yorkshire and still thinks of herself as a Yorkshire lass!

Outside of work, Debbie likes to read autobiographies and travel, particularly touring Europe and walking around the British countryside and coastline. She enjoys gardening, but admits that success in that area is hit and miss, and she may need more time before she can call herself green-fingered.

Carrie Doney

HR Coordinator

Carrie originally worked for Camino when the business first started in 2009, helping with the administration and marketing. 9 years and two children later she returned in 2020 and now works as HR Coordinator. She provides much of the outsourced HR administration and first line HR support for our clients. She is also our resident expert on Breathe HR.

As well as her experience working in higher education and the NHS, Carrie has worked outside of HR in a variety of other industries, so she brings a strong understanding of working life from both an HR and an employee perspective.

Carrie loves reading, spending time with friends and family, and her labrador puppy. She also really loves to laugh, which is probably why our clients all tell us how much they like working with her!

Sarah Window

HR Adviser

Sarah joined us in early 2023 with a good background in people management and the frontline delivery of HR. She’d held roles in several different sectors, which is really important to us with our mix of clients. She told us that she was driven by her passion for people, problem solving and project work and she’s certainly thrown herself into all that since she’s joined us.

Sarah started with us as HR Coordinator but was working to gain her CIPD level 5, which she has now completed. She says that working for Camino is incredibly rewarding with the mix of clients, the variety of work and the regular opportunity to take on new challenges.

Personally, Sarah is family oriented and enjoys travelling. She recently spent time living overseas in Kenya, quite the contrast from her seaside hometown of Lowestoft. She’s now settled in Lincolnshire.
